License

The License Tab under the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) section in Cloudamize provides a comprehensive view of licensing costs associated with workloads when migrating to or running in the cloud. It consolidates all license-related costs and decisions (e.g., OS, SQL Server, third-party software) and shows their impact on annual and hourly TCO estimates.

The License tab provides a comprehensive table listing every server or virtual machine discovered during the assessment. This table provides a wealth of information for each asset, as described below:

Column Name

Description

Group Name

User-defined name of the asset group or logical grouping.

Asset

Identifier or name of the asset within the infrastructure.

Server Name

Machine’s Hostname

OS

The operating system running on the server (e.g., Windows, Linux).

OS Version

Version of the operating system (e.g., Windows Server 2019, Ubuntu 20.04).

Recommended Instance

Suggested instance type for optimized performance/cost.

Available vCPU

Number of virtual CPUs currently available in the existing instance.

Recommended vCPU

Suggested number of vCPUs based on workload analysis.

Hyperthreading

Indicates whether hyperthreading is enabled or not.

Tenancy

Specifies whether the instance tenancy is Shared or Dedicated.

Constraint

Any restrictions or requirements applied to the instance (e.g., compliance, hardware).

Annual Total Cost ($)

Total estimated annual cost including license.

Annual Hourly Cost ($)

Annualized cost expressed as an hourly rate.

Annualized Upfront Cost ($)

One-time upfront cost, normalized over the year.

License Cost ($)

Annual cost attributed specifically to licensing.

Annual Dedicated Instance Fees ($)

Annual cost for dedicated instance usage (if applicable).

Region

Geographic region where the server/instance is hosted.

Pricing Plan

Type of pricing model applied (e.g., On-Demand, Reserved, Spot).

License Cost Reason

Explanation for license cost (e.g., Windows license, SQL Server).

ID (server name + uid)

Unique identifier combining server name and UID.

Search and Filtering

  • Search Bar: A search bar at the top right allows users to quickly find specific assets by Name, Group, IP Address, or OS.

  • Filter Options: The "All Infrastructures" dropdown allows for filtering the displayed assets based on different criteria.

The License tab is an essential tool that Helps identify opportunities to reduce costs by leveraging Bring Your Own License (BYOL) or License Mobility via Software Assurance. It also allows side-by-side analysis of compute costs with and without licenses.
